Case Study

Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital

London, UK

For over 10 years, Drax Technology have maintained the fire alarm systems across Guys and St Thomas’s hospital in London.

Both hospitals had a mixture of Advanced, Morley and Static systems, consisting of approximately 130 panels with 6 AMX GUI PC’s. The Static systems had issues due to the panels having Managed protocols and being tied to Static systems for all breakdowns and parts. To address this issue and future-proof the hospitals for many years, we initiated a panel upgrade program to remove and upgrade each static system to the new Advanced open protocol MX Pro 5 Analogue addressable systems.

The main challenge of the project was to upgrade the Static systems to the new Advanced open protocol MX Pro 5 Analogue addressable systems. This required a comprehensive approach, as each system was unique, and the upgrade process had to be customised to fit the specific requirements of each panel.

To ensure a smooth and efficient upgrade process, we started by assessing the current system architecture and identifying potential areas for improvement. We then developed a detailed plan for upgrading each static system to the new Advanced open protocol MX Pro 5 Analogue addressable systems. The plan was tailored to the unique requirements of each panel and included a detailed schedule and timeline for completing the upgrade.

Our team worked closely with the hospital staff to minimise disruption during the upgrade process, ensuring that all fire alarm systems remained fully operational throughout the upgrade, along with providing regular updates to the hospital staff on the progress of the upgrade program.

After successfully upgrading all static systems to the new Advanced open protocol MX Pro 5 Analogue addressable systems, the hospitals are now future-proofed for many years and have a more reliable fire alarm system in place, allowing the hospital staff to better manage their systems, and the new open protocols enable the hospitals to have access to a much broader range of support, parts and products.
